Why We Don’t Recommend Building Your Website on Wix, Weebly or Squarespace

Thinking about building your website on Wix, Weebly or Squarespace? You’re not alone. These platforms are popular for their low costs, simple drag-and-drop builders, and ready-made templates, which can be great for businesses just getting started.

In fact, many of our clients come to us with websites built on these platforms. And they can still achieve good results. We’ve helped clients on all kinds of platforms improve performance, attract more traffic, and generate enquiries.

But when it comes to long-term SEO, scalability, and performance, we don’t recommend staying on these platforms forever.

WordPress is our preferred platform for growing allied health clinics and service-based businesses, and this blog explains why. Keep on reading to learn more.

SEO Limitations Make Ranking Harder

The number one reason we don’t recommend Wix, Weebly or Squarespace is simple: SEO performance.

These platforms tend to come with bloated code, rigid URL structures, and limited control over key SEO elements like:

  • Meta titles and descriptions
  • Schema markup
  • Heading hierarchy
  • Page speed and image optimisation

That means it’s harder for your website to rank well on Google, especially for competitive local  keywords.

If visibility in search results is a priority (and it should be), WordPress gives you significantly more control and capability.

You’re Locked Into Their Ecosystem

Once you build your website on one of these platforms, you can’t take it with you.

You’re locked into their hosting and design system. If your business grows or your needs change, moving to another platform like WordPress means starting from scratch. That often means double-handling your investment, and more time and money down the line.

DIY Design Still Needs Strategy

These platforms are marketed as “DIY-friendly”,  and while they are user-friendly, they’re not foolproof. When it comes to your unique business, customisation is key. You’re not the same as your competitor, so why should your website be the same?

A great website requires:

  • Professional design
  • User experience (UX) understanding
  • Mobile responsiveness
  • Clear structure and calls-to-action
  • A strategy that guides users to convert
  • The capability for customisation – adding features and sections that you need, when you need them.

Without that strategy behind it, even the best-looking drag-and-drop site might fail to attract bookings or enquiries.

Limited Flexibility As You Grow

As your clinic or business grows, you might want to:

  • Add advanced booking functionality
  • Run local SEO or Google Ads campaigns
  • Capture leads through pop-ups or automations
  • Track performance using tools like Google Analytics or Tag Manager

Platforms like Wix and Squarespace often hit a wall when you try to integrate more advanced tools. WordPress, on the other hand, is flexible and endlessly customisable, with thousands of plugins and development options.

Limited Support and Community

When something goes wrong on Wix or Squarespace, your support options are limited to:

  • A help centre
  • Email-based customer support
  • Generalised, non-specialist advice

With WordPress, you have a global community of developers, marketers and SEO experts (like us!) ready to support you with tailored solutions, industry insight, and best-practice fixes.

Myth buster: Are WordPress websites are hard to use? NO!

It’s a common misconception that WordPress is only for tech-savvy developers, but that’s simply not true. We provide a handy, easy-to-follow user guide that gives you the confidence and skills to make small edits and updates on your own. Plus, we’re always here to support you long-term whenever you need a helping hand. Thanks to tools like Elementor, WordPress has become more intuitive than ever, offering a simple drag-and-drop interface that rivals platforms like Wix, Squarespace, and Weebly, without sacrificing flexibility or control. With WordPress, you get the best of both worlds: power under the hood and ease of use on the surface.

So, Should You Switch to WordPress?

If your site is performing well, you’re happy with it, and it meets your current business needs, it’s totally fine to stay on your existing platform for now. We’ve seen plenty of clients achieve great results with a smart SEO strategy, even on less-than-perfect platforms.

But if:

  • You want to rank higher on Google
  • You’re growing and need more flexibility
  • You’re investing in digital marketing or SEO
  • Your current site feels restrictive or underperforms

Then it might be time to migrate to WordPress.

We help clinics make this transition every day carefully, strategically, and with minimal downtime. The result is a faster, higher-converting, and SEO-optimised affordable website that’s ready to scale with your practice.
