Social media is a way of connecting with hundreds, or thousands (or even millions!) of potential customers. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, all of these free services provide opportunities to showcase your business to your target customer. So how important is the Instagram setup process? Short answer, VERY. Let’s dive in.

If you’re asking yourself,

“Is my business Instagram account set up correctly?”

The chances are, it’s not.

Instagram offers a variety of handy tools to complete your profile, but there are some obvious (and some not-so-obvious) features that you should utilise if you want your Instagram to work well for your business.

Step 1: Fill out every field

From your business name to the description, URL (where you insert your website) and contact details – all of these fields are ways to connect with your customer. Start by viewing your profile and clicking “edit profile”  to make sure you’ve got it all covered.

Step 2: Use a LinkTree (or equivalent)

These services allow you to showcase several links on a free, landing page. Therefore, if you want to showcase several pages (such as “about us”, “our services”, “meet the team”, and “our portfolio”) you’ll need to set up a free account on LinkTree (or a similar service). Then, you can use your custom LinkTree URL in the URL section of your profile instead of your website URL. Two birds, one stone. Or shall we say, many links, one click?

Step 3: Use your Instagram highlights

No, we’re not talking about flaunting the latest hair-do, your Instagram highlights sit at the top of your profile grid and are a way of showcasing your favourite (or best) stories. Highlights can be “our team”, “price guide”, “reviews”, “our menu” – or whatever you feel the customer would like to know at a glance. Better still, create customised images to use as the cover photo for your highlights for an aesthetically pleasing profile!

Step 4: Don’t underestimate your profile picture

It may be tempting to put a cool icon or a team photo as your profile picture, but when we’re talking business accounts – keep the logo in prime position. You’ll need to size your logo to fit within a circle, and potentially update the colours to make it POP (if it suits your brand, of course!). But the more you can get your logo in front of your target market, the further your brand awareness spreads. Little steps, that one by one, lead to big growth.

Bonus step: Instagram Insights

This isn’t technically a “setup step”, but equally as important
Your Instagram Insights. Click the three lines on the top right of your screen (when you’re viewing your profile) and click ‘insights’. This handy analytics tool will show you which posts perform the best, the times and days your followers are most active and other bits and bobs that you can tap into to optimise engagement.
