Facebook Live is a live video streaming feature on Facebook that allows you to broadcast a live video out to your audience through your company page or personal profile.
Facebook Live videos are also found on your page or profile for viewers who missed the live event. Videos show up in an individual’s news feed during the live event, as well as after the event has ended. Since introducing the new algorithm, there is now a higher chance of seeing a live video, because well, we see what Facebook wants us to see! And live-streaming and real-time video is it right now!
Why should we go live?
Facebook live videos are a quick and simple way to interact with your clients and followers. You can use Facebook live to raise brand awareness, generate leads or connect and communicate with existing followers. It is suggested that Facebook live videos receive five times more engagement in comparison to a standard photo post.
When going live, it gives you the chance to showcase the people behind the business. People who are real and caring, hard workers. It provides connection with your audience, and help them to build trust, which helps bring more people through the door.
You are also able to answer questions in real-time, so think about running a live about a certain injury, topic, or maybe an offer or deal. It’s important that, when you go live, you be honest with your replies. Make sure your live host embodies your company’s energy, their values and goals.
How do I get started on Facebook Live?
Starting a Live video is as simple as clicking the “Live Video button”. From there you have to create a click-worthy description that entices people to come watch your video and engage with you.
Choosing a setting to record your video is just as important as the video itself. Choosing an environment with good lighting is a must – a good source of natural lighting will help you appear clearer. If you’re outside, think about noise – wind, cars and sirens make for an annoying user experience!
Personality is key. Watching a video of an individual with an energetic and friendly demeanour will evoke positive feelings in your viewers and keep them hooked, in comparison to a video that has a speaker who enlists a monotone, unfriendly voice.
And if the video is a real hit, you can make it a featured video, so it will appear front and centre on your page, as well as your video page, driving even more eyes to it.
But I’m out of my comfort zone!
It’s difficult putting yourself in front of a camera – especially one that’s live! But being live is the beauty of it – it captures genuity. Sometimes it can be helpful to have a little plan about what you’re going to talk about, but totally not necessary! And if you’re unsure or worried about making a mistake, then just be honest! Tell your followers it’s your first live, and to ‘be gentle’. People like people who are human (and humans stumble and make mistakes sometimes). So if in doubt, just give it a whirl and see how you go.
Ultimately Facebook live is about helping your clients associate a person with your brand. It builds trust, relationships and engagement. So give it a go, and who knows – you just might find that you like it!
